Our team will work closely with you through all the stages, from the initial design to the cutting, bending, welding, and fabrication.

The Process of Machining Engineering

Sheet metal machining is a step-by-step process to create a finished product. It involves turning flat sheets of metal into finished structures. The metals used are typically steel, brass, copper, and aluminium. While each fabrication is unique, the processes involved are usually the same. The metal sheets are cut, punched, stretched, or bent as needed. Then a process of welding and fabrication will produce the finished product. The general production flow can be broken up into three phases – Cutting, Deformation, and Assembly.

  • Cutting – The cutting process is quite complex, and the techniques we use depend on the material you wish to cut. At NE Engineering we use a top-end Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) system. This ensures that we get the necessary precision for producing quality parts. All the machining is first performed in a virtual environment to ensure optimum performance. Since cutting is a subtractive process, CNC machining helps keep waste to a minimum. CNC cutting also helps in the reduction of human and mechanical errors.
  • Deformation – Deforming or bending is another set of processes used to manipulate the metal. The sheets are formed into a myriad of shapes by bending, rolling, spinning, or stamping the metal as needed.
  • Assembly – The assembly of the sheet metal parts is a vital part of the fabrication process. The various components are pieced together by various means. Welding is the main focus of steel fabrication. Quality welding and fabrication ensure that the finished product meets the highest standards.

Materials We Work With

Our expert technicians can machine complex components from a wide range of materials. The most common materials we use for sheet metal fabrication are

stainless steel, carbon steel, copper, brass, and aluminium.
